If your over 50, local and enjoy good company then come and join our fun loving young at heart group.
Young at heart are a group of over 50′s who meet fortnightly on Wednesday afternoons at St. Thomas’s Community Network. If you are either living in St. Thomas’ Ward or have links to the area you are welcome to join.
Membership is just £1 per year. Our members also contribute £1 at each meeting which goes into the “young at heart kitty” and is spent on day trips and social events organised independantly by the group.
The meetings are a great way to socialise with others from the local area and you can win prizes every fortnight in the young at heart raffle. Raffle tickets cost just £1 and the money raised boosts the kitty even further, so everyone’s a winner.
We also plan and organise the following:
- Day trips and outings – for example in May 2011, some of the members along with outreach worker Emma went to Western Super Mare. Fortunately the weather was very good and the tide was in when they arrived. A lovely day was had by all as they checked out the sights and scenery, did some shopping and enjoyed cream teas and traditional fish and chips by the sea.
- Various talks and demonstrations – such as the cake decorating demo or when one of our members Alan – did a talk about his military career and bought in all of his memorabilia. We have had a “photo’s from when we were younger” afternoon where we had to guess whose pictures were whose and learnt a little about each others lives. Members have brought in arts and crafts to discuss their creative hobbies and abilities which included hand made cards, drawings, paintings, knitting and embroidery – what a talented bunch!
